Yardage Templates and Products Used in Class Shipping
Because of the many different sizes of class projects for this class, the Fabric Requirements are listed in a pdf file.
Note: We want the quilting to show in the class project! Please choose solid color fabrics or fabrics that "read" like a solid. Avoid busy prints and heavily printed fabrics.
You will need basic sewing supplies and basic sewing/quilting skills to piece the quilt top.
We will be using several of the Longarm University quilting templates to create the designs on the class project. The templates used in this class are -

Use what ever type of thread you and your machine are comfortable working with.
For my class project I WANTED the quilting to show! I used a very dark contrasting thread (black) to quilt the cornerstones and the sashings. I used a dark gray variegated thread to quilt the border cables and the cable wreaths in the blocks. I also used a light thread (silver gray) for the stitch near the ditch around the blocks and in other areas of the quilt.
This is YOUR quilt! Use as many colors of threads as you want on this quilt.
For the class project (any size) you will need -
We are going to make registration lines - a lot of them - to mark the placement and boundaries of our quilting designs.
You will need a marker that you are comfortable using on a quilt top. I recommend the Mark B Gone, water soluble (blue) marker on light fabrics and a Chalk O Liner with Miracle Chalk powder in it for dark fabric. I also like using Crayola Fine Line Washable Markers.
Please note that the Crayola markers wash out with detergent and warm water. The Crayola Fine Line Washable markers can be found at nearly every office supply store and many other stores including most grocery stores. A package of 8 markers is usually less than $5.
I use the Crayola markers only on my own quilts, NEVER, EVER on a customer quilt!
To remove the Crayola Washable Marker you MUST wash your quilt with warm / hot water with detergent! Water along will NOT remove this marker!
REMEMBER this is a LEARNING project! This project does not need to be perfect. World peace does not depend on perfect piecing or quilting!!

I bet that these are the strangest shaped templates you have ever seen - but they make the most amazing design! The Cable Wreath Templates comes in three different sizes to make - a 12 inch diameter Cable Wreath, a 9 inch diameter Cable Wreath and a 6 inch diameter Cable Wreath.
These templates are used in the blocks of this quilt.
Each 2 piece template set comes with complete step-by-step, photo illustrated instructions AND DVD instructions!
For this class we need the 12 inch AND the 6 inch diameter Cable Wreaths

The Simple Cable template makes the traditional Double Cable pattern that is used in the borders and in the sashings of the class project.
Placement of the cables is fairly simple using the "No Math, No Measure" method of border design placement - which is discussed and used in this class.
We will be using the 3 inch Simple Cable which is a two template set. Along with the cable design, the second template makes a "curved corner". Note: we will not be using the curved corner design in this class.
For best results with the 3 inch Simple Cable Template, I highly recommend using the 1-1/2 inch Grid Stencil. For information about the Grid Stencils Click Here

This template makes 1 inch, 1-1/2 inch, 2 inch and 3 inch diameter finished size circles.
At it's widest points, this template measures 9-1/2inches x 6 inches. The template is made from clear, 1/4 inch acrylic material.

I like to put a "shot" of spray adhesive between the quilt top
and the batting along the border edges of the quilt. This holds the
border edges of the quilt in place and I
don't have to stitch
down the raw edges of the sides of the quilt, eliminating the chance
of pleats and puckers in the side borders.
When using templates on the longarm machine, they have a tendency
to slip slightly creating an uneven stitching line. I found that by
applying a small amount of Quilt Basting
Spray on the back (etched
side) of the templates prevents this slippage.
