Many years ago I began quilting quilts for American Hero Quilts, a charity organization that makes quilts and donates them to active duty wounded soldiers.

Over the years I have toyed with the idea of designing a quilt quilt specifically for American Hero Quilts and finally, I DO have a quilt that is a perfect project!!!
With the approval of American Hero Quilts, the New Year's day Mystery Quilt Along is going to be the American Hero Stars / Scrappy Stars Quilt.
If you would prefer, there is an Scrappy Stars version of this quilt that looks great - no matter what fabrics you choose. This could be a "stash buster" quilt or you can use coordinated fabric and this version is Fat Quarter Friendly!!

When you register for this class you will receive the piecing instructions for the class project. You then begin piecing the quilt top for your class project.
On the day of the Mystery Quilt-Along, January 1, 2025, have your pieced quilt top on your quilting machine, ready for quilting.
At about 8 am Pacific Time (sometimes a little earlier) the first "Part" of the class will be posted. Then, about 1-1/2 to 2 hours later, another Part of the class will be posted. This will continue during the day until ALL the class Parts are online.
Throughout the day you will receive emails letting you know when a new Part has been posted.
A FaceBook group will be created so you can view the progress of the other students in the class and "talk" with each other.
If you are busy New Year's Day, don't worry! When you register for the Mystery Quilt-Along you will have 365 days, 24/7 unlimited access to the class videos.
This is a fun and creative way to start a New Year!!

As you can see from the photos above, the centers of the stars give each quilt it's unique look!
The piecing of this quilt is a bit unusual - because the star points "touch" each other, the stars have a different piecing sequence. The pattern is highly illustrated with step-by-step piecing instructions
The American Hero / Scrappy Stars Quilt can be made in two sizes
Wall/Lap Quilt - 59 x 59
inches
Large Size Quilt - 72 x 88 inches.
As a self proscribed "feather queen", there will be feathers in the borders and in the background areas.
The questions are - what kind of feathers will they be? And how are they quilted?
You will have to attend the New Year's Day Mystery Quilt-Along to find out!
It doesn't matter HOW you make your feathers! You CAN quilt the this quit!
Yes, we will be using templates to make "boundaries" for the depth of our feathers and for the feather placement. We will be making our own templates with piecing template plastic which is available at quilt shops and "big box" fabric stores. Instructions on how make these templates are part of this class.
