In this class, we start with literally starting with a "fractured whole cloth quilt" and we are going to be doing a LOT of traditional quilting (hint, hint - feathers) to make an AMAZING whole cloth quilt that you will be PROUD to show to everyone!

And to think that this AMAZING quilt started with a fractured whole cloth quilt!
Way back in the "dark ages" of machine quilting I quilted a whole cloth quilt. I took two pieces of 90 inch wide fabric (one piece of fabric for the top and the other piece of fabirc for the backing) and I spent hours and hours quilting and finishing up the project. I was so proud of what I did until ....
I entered the quilt into a quilt show and when it was hanging, it was WONKY! During quilting, the fabrics had stretched and the whole quilt was skewed and wavy! And no, I didn't win any prizes because the quilt was wonky.
When making a whole cloth quilt, make it like a "regular" quilt. Make blocks, add seams, add borders and make the quilt top lay flat and smooth BEFORE quilting, just like a regular quilt.

The Traditional Whole Cloth Mystery Quilt begins with a fractured whole cloth quilt top, which can be made in 3 sizes -
Wall/Lap Quilt - 56 x 56
inches
Twin
Quilt - 56 x 86 inches
Queen Size Quilt -
86 x 86 inches.
About 90% of the quilt is going to be feathers! There are three basic feather designs that are used to make "medallions" and other wonderful designs! If you LOVE quilting feathers you will LOVE this quilt!
The feather designs that are used in this quilt are -
It doesn't matter HOW you make your feathers! You can quilt the this quit with
By mixing and matching these three feather designs, YOU will make this AMAZING quilt!
Yes, we will be using templates to make "boundaries" for the depth of our feathers and for the feather placement. We will be making our own templates with piecing template plastic which is available at quilt shops and "big box" fabric stores. Instructions on how make these templates are part of this class.
